Northwest Alcohol Conference

Doug Murakami is the Alcohol Education Director at the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The Utah DABC is taking on a leadership role in Utah’s efforts to reduce underage drinking and other forms of alcohol abuse. At the 2006 Utah Legislative Session, the Utah DABC was successful in getting the E.A.S.Y. (Eliminate Alcohol Sales to Youth) bill passed. The law provides funding for Utah’s underage drinking prevention media campaign www.ParentsEmpowered.org and funds statewide local law enforcement compliance checks for off-premise consumption beer retailers (grocery and convenience stores), including mandatory seller employee training and a uniform statewide penalty schedule. Doug manages the day-to-day operations of the Parents Empowered.org campaign and coordinates Utah’s underage drinking prevention workgroup overseeing the direction of the campaign.
