SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – The next time your trash is picked up, you may notice the garbage truck has a new look.

They’re mobile billboards carrying messages to parents.

The ads are aimed at preventing underage drinking and encouraging parents to talk to their kids.

They focus on how alcohol can hurt children’s brain development.

“It’s not only unacceptable because its against the law, it’s unacceptable because of the consequences on their health and on their long-term success,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker.

The trucks began rolling through neighborhoods after being unveiled at the city and county building.

In years past the trucks have carried underage drinking messages more than a million miles, rolling past homes three million-plus times.
