ROOSEVELT, Utah Garbage trucks in eastern Utah are urging parents to keep their kids from getting “trashed” in a new ad campaign against underage drinking.
K&K Sanitation has wrapped seven of its Duchesne and Uintah county garbage trucks with anti-alcohol messages from ParentsEmpowered.org.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/uupHZz ) the banners were funded through a grant from the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The family-owned sanitation company is displaying the ads for free.
Similar ads first appeared on garbage trucks in Salt Lake County in 2009.
A 2011 survey shows that 9.1 percent of northeastern Utah students reported alcohol use in the past 30 days. That number was above the state average of 8.6 percent.
