Utah’s ParentsEmpowered.org team spreads anti–under-age drinking message statewide County coordinators of anti– substance-abuse efforts will hold 130 ParentsEmpowered events around the state.
For the third consecutive year, the month of January has been designated Parents Empowered month, a month dedicated to spreading messages about the dangers of underage drinking and the proven skills required to prevent it. Some 130 ParentsEmpowered-sponsored events will take place in the next several weeks, helping to educate parents and kids on the dangers of underage drinking. Each of Utah’s 13 Sub-stance Abuse County Coordin-ators is planning and executing tenevents in their respective areas.

The aim of these 130 events is to continue raising awareness and changing Utah’s social norms concerning underage drinking
According to Parents-Empowered, binge drinking begins as early as sixth grade, and alcohol kills more young people than all other drugs combined. Research shows that parents are the number one reason kids choose not to drink.
“We need to keep our kids alcohol free, and we want the public to know that underage drinking is not acceptable,” said Art Brown, president of the Utah Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). “It’s against the law. It causes possible brain impairment and damages our children’s future.”
ParentsEmpowered.org is a statewide campaign focused on eliminating underage drinking in Utah. Its primary goals are to educate parents about the dangers of underage drinking and provide them with proven skills to communicate with their children about remaining alcohol-free.
