Garbage trucks rambling down the road are hard to miss.
That’s why officials are using them as moving billboards of sorts for a new version of a perennial advertising campaign that aims to remind teenagers of the dangers of alcohol.
Salt Lake City and the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control on Wednesday unveiled the new ads, which are part of the department’s Parents Empowered campaign.
Ads displaying questions such as “What part of their brains don’t your kids need?” emblazon 17 garbage trucks that service residential neighborhoods in Salt Lake City, according to a news release.
“We want our kids to be safe and to succeed,” Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker said in the release. “As parents and as a community, we must be proactive about talking to our kids about the dangers of underage drinking.”
Garbage trucks have been used to purvey Parents Empowered campaign ads for the past five years.
