Family Fun Night was held on September 11, at Honey’s Marketplace. Kane Community Coalition and Honey’s Marketplace sponsored the event, along with the Kane Community Youth Coalition and Parents Empowered. Approximately 200 families attended and over 650 people were served.
The focus of the evening was family mealtime and preventing underage drinking. Parents were given three tools to aid in the prevention of underage drinking: bonding, boundaries and monitoring.
All enjoyed a free dinner of pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, chips and watermelon, along with games, parental education and prizes.
A survey conducted that evening showed that 75 percent of parents feel underage alcohol use is a serious problem in our community.
